The 1oz American Eagle Silver Coin – Classic Design brings together two of America's most recognisable coin designs in one iconic silver bullion release. Produced by the United States Mint from 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, the American Silver Eagle has been a cornerstone of American bullion coinage since its introduction in 1986.
This Classic Design edition features Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty on the obverse and John Mercanti's original Heraldic Eagle on the reverse. Used from 1986 until the design change in 2021, this pairing represents the first generation of the American Silver Eagle series.
With its distinctive American imagery, official US legal tender status and internationally recognised one-ounce format, the Classic American Silver Eagle appeals to both bullion buyers and collectors of historic American coin designs.
Obverse: Features Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty, originally created for the United States Half Dollar in 1916. Lady Liberty strides towards the rising sun, draped in the American flag and carrying branches of laurel and oak, symbolising civil and military strength. The design is accompanied by the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and the coin's year of issue.
Reverse: Displays the original Heraldic Eagle design by John Mercanti. The bald eagle appears behind a shield, holding an olive branch and arrows to represent peace and the strength to defend the nation. Above the eagle are 13 stars, representing the original American colonies.
Surrounding inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER ~ ONE DOLLAR and E PLURIBUS UNUM, meaning "Out of Many, One".
The Heraldic Eagle reverse was replaced during 2021 with a new design depicting an eagle landing while carrying an oak branch. This makes the original Mercanti reverse an important distinguishing feature of the Classic Design American Silver Eagle.

The Classic Design, also known as Type 1, features John Mercanti's Heraldic Eagle reverse. In 2021, the United States Mint introduced the Type 2 design featuring an eagle landing with an oak branch. Both versions retain the famous Walking Liberty obverse and contain one troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
Created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, Walking Liberty originally appeared on the American Half Dollar. Its depiction of Liberty moving towards the rising sun became one of the most celebrated designs in US coinage and was revived for the American Silver Eagle in 1986.
The 13 stars represent the original thirteen American colonies that formed the United States. Together with the eagle, shield, olive branch and arrows, they reflect the nation's history and traditional symbols of unity, peace and strength.
This product is supplied as a random-year Classic Design coin, selected from available stock. All coins feature the original Heraldic Eagle reverse, but individual dates may vary and specific years cannot be guaranteed.
